I haven't been on the stage in about 3 years due to the pandemic and to be honest, I wasn't sure if I would ever find something that intrigued me enough to audition, then I found 12 Angry Men. I was a little reluctant to go because I didn’t feel I would get the part, so much so that when I got to the audition I sat in my car for a couple of minutes contemplating driving back home. Was I ready? What if they don't like me? All these questions ran through my head. After some thought, I pulled myself together and walked in. Nervous, I kept to myself in the waiting area. My name got called and there was no going back.
I was greeted by Richard and Jen. Still a bit nervous, I kept rehearsing my monologue over and over in my head but little did I know, I wasn't going to do it. This audition was like no other. We sat and talked about what Juror I wanted to be and why. I felt so comfortable talking to Richard and Jen that my nervousness went away.
Fast forward to now, we’ve been rehearsing for over a month and my character is starting to come to life. The cast is amazing and when the chemistry is on point, we put on a good show. There’s more that I need to work on and more I need to learn about my character, but with every rehearsal, I’m getting closer and closer. Every character brings something different and so unique that during rehearsals I often catch myself watching the play and forgetting that I’m in it. It’s amazing watching the other characters come to life.
This is going to be a great show and I cannot wait for everyone to see the talent we have in the cast.
Joel Avitia--Juror #5
