Friends with Guns
You think you know your friends, your neighbors, your spouse, but what happens when you suddenly find out they have a garage full of guns? This new dark comedy explores the complicated issue of gun proliferation when two young liberal couples are forced to confront their assumptions about who should own a gun and why. The time of easy answers regarding this issue is long gone. In the wake of current events, we are all forced to reexamine our strongly held beliefs about gun ownership. Friends With Guns explores the question of what we can compartmentalize…and what we can’t. It examines what happens when guns enter the conversation. It pulls the curtain back on liberals with guns. It asks what happens when suddenly one person in a marriage does a 180 on the gun issue. And it does all of this through a female lens.

Stephanie Alison Walker is a Barrington native raising her kids here after fifteen years in Los Angeles. She is an internationally-produced, award-winning and published playwright whose work is known for the personalization of the political, humor in darkness and the exploration of the resilience of women.
FRIENDS WITH GUNS was an O’Neill Finalist, a L.A. Times Critics Choice, Winner of Best New Play by the Valley Theater Awards and received a simultaneous world premiere in L.A., Portland, and Minneapolis in 2018. She’s thrilled to finally introduce local audiences to this play.

Her short plays have been anthologized by Smith & Kraus. Her full-lengths (Friends With Guns, American Home and The Art of Disappearing) are published by Broadway Publishing, Inc. In addition to writing plays, she is currently adapting FRIENDS WITH GUNS and THE ABUELAS as features and writing TV pilots while raising two spirited boys and selling real estate with her mom in Barrington and Chicago. She is a proud member of the Barrington Cultural Commission, Dramatists Guild of America, Honor Roll Playwrights, and an alumni of the Playwrights Union.
